Escape the Scroll: Choosing Movement over Media
π€ Ever woken up in a panic, heart racing, thoughts racing faster? That was me yesterday morning at 4:25 AM. In that moment of restlessness, I made the mistake of scrolling through social media, getting sucked into the never-ending cycle of polls π and politics. It was overwhelming, to say the least. Social media can be a powerful tool, but many of us have taken doom-scrolling to new extremes, especially lately. Regardless of where we stand.
πββοΈ Instead of letting the angst consume me, I chose to go for a runβmy go-to strategy, along with walking on the beach and tennis, when those catabolic emotions start to creep in. While Iβm not a huge fan of the term βself-care,β which often feels diminishing, I deeply appreciate the underlying concept.
Everyone has their own method for releasing pent-up stress. For me, being active is cathartic and energizing. And, guess what..research backs this up. Being active offers many benefits for managing stress, including:
β Releasing endorphins that lift our mood.
β Reducing tension and alleviating physical stress.
β Improving sleep quality, making it easier to fall and stay asleep (π aha!).
β Channeling frustration and clearing the mind.
β Boosting confidence and self-esteem.
β Enhancing cognitive function, improving focus and concentration.
β Encouraging mindfulness, promoting relaxation and calm.
β Contributing to overall well-being.
π‘ So, how do you find your balance and stay active during stressful times? Whatβs your go-to method for releasing tension?
